I remember as a kid that I complained about the horrible picture quality of the first Apollo moon landing. However this was the television transmission and what is not known is the astronauts also brought 16mm home movie cameras with them. For more than 40 years the original film negatives were cyrogenically preserved and recently digitally remastered and transfered to 35mm film and the Blu-Ray disc format. The result is stunning 1080p high definition footage of the Apollo missions. The Blu-Ray disc is called "For All Mankind" and is the first time that the original footage is showcased without generational degradation that comes when making copies of copies of copies. Visually sharp stunning and rich in color the only complaint is that some of the motion portrayal is choppy because it was shot with a low frame rate in order to conserve film however newer generation 120 hertz HDTV's do a good job of smoothing out motion. For those who do not have a Blu-Ray player the good news is that these players are now only $120.
Thanks. I can remember watching some Apollo films that were released on 8mm film many years ago. By the way it is also available on DVD as well for those that have bought a Blu-ray player yet.
