western Canada energy policy imbalance

Yet another example to stop a $6.2-billion dollar plan by Alberta Energy's plan to build two 1,100 MW plants in northwestern Alberta, the first such plant in the province or western Canada. Critical leadership in B.C. seems to be lacking toward nukes inclusion to the energy mix in western Canada. I get the impression B.C. leadership is fanatically anti-nuke without rhyme-or-reason and unwittingly agents of pollution with help from the Sierra Club.

Didn't the reporter ever think to notice plenty of other customers to plug into an integrated power grid maybe providing power to Canada's Arctic region? Of course not. Writers reporting on presumptions based on political bent makes for good copy-Bravo Vancouver Sun! Don't let the facts get in the way of a good 'feel good' enviro-story [story link] . "...Wind power & solar good; nukes bad."

Leaders in B.C. seem to be hooked on the mantra, but when aboriginal fisheries and fisherman wonder why salmon stocks are dwindling due to philosophy of building dams-for-megawatts or bird & bat shredded in wind turbines. Hypocrisy and confusion continues to reign in western Canada over sane smart energy policy.wink

...yep, and here in the USA we have very high milk and egg prices because feed corn is diverted to ethanol fuel programs.

Yes... indeed Googlenaut I concur. Ethanol fuel programs are skewed toward sucking up every available biomass material for vehicular fuel.
Heck... at least in the old days the 'Dukes of hazzard' ran some of their crop from the 'Duke' farm for 'moon shine' for drink. Their car powered by affordable quality premium gasoline and electrical power to run an electrical still supplied by a 856 MWe BWR reactor by GE in the State of Georgia.

You can't help but love this energy mix even if 'Boss Hogg' was always trying to shutdown the Duke family and their farm. LOL smile
