Ok, this has nothing at all to do with nuclear power or space...
but it involved the release of a quite a bit of energy!
We had a pretty good sized earthquake in Northern California today at about 4:30pm or so--it ended up being a 6.5. It shook things up in the Safeway store in McKinleyville and knocked out power to Trinidad, Arcata, Eureka, and parts of Fortuna. It shattered the glass skylights at our local mall which caused a few injuries. No one was injured in our store. And a few off duty, but rattled Costco employees said they had a wild ride, but amazingly not one person was hurt there.
All in all, I'd say we were pretty darn lucky.
I only lost a closet full of canning jars, and that was pretty much it.
The cat, frankly, has said to hell with the shaking world, and is hiding even now under my daughter's bed covers!
