As I told my son when asked if the world will end tomorrow.

Uh...huh you've got school tomorrow!!

Is there a God particle? Couldn't say but I figure its a great 'toy' to be able to take bowling balls and smash them together. I hope physicists have a world of fun.

One thing is for sure the world of physics will open up a little bit more with LHC around.  wink

I was trying to explain to a lady freind last night the diference between a "probability" and a "Risk"

There is a calculable probability that all the air molicules in my sitting room will, through their own random movements, all move to one end of the room and leave me gasping for air.

However, there is no "Risk" of this ever happening!

I suppose the worst outcome would be that Stephen Hawkings is wrong about Hawking radiation, but, (as I believe he said) in any case, far more energetic events happen every day in the upper atmosphere involving cosmic rays

(Maybe somebody out there had a Super Super LHC that some of their protons escaped from?)
