I am given to understand that there is a designated "trail" between the east and west coast of north America that is arround 6000 miles (I guess its a bit wriggly)
Do any of our American members know anything about this. I might be tempted to try it (on a mountain bike, 200 days!), A sort of a "once in a lifetime" experiance!
Well, I am familiar with the 'Oregon Trail' which was a wagon train route from Kansas and Missouri to Oregon. I'm sure there are other Northern American routes of historical interest used by Native Americans when overland trade was happening. I'm not sure there was really any one route, as different routes were taken at different times of the year--the Donner Party had little success on the route through the Sierra Nevada mountains during that fateful winter many years ago...
There are some nice books on the subject (although none come to mind this second!) and I am sure that you could find some kind of a route that would be lots of fun.
