"The Kansas Department of Health and Environment yesterday became the first government agency in the United States to cite carbon dioxide emissions as the reason for rejecting an air permit for a proposed coal-fired electricity generating plant, saying that the greenhouse gas threatens public health and the environment."
Kansans put on boots against coal fired powerplant...the gas hit the fan in Topeka.
I would be more worried about SO2 emmissions and heavy-metal particulates than CO2--but then again, I am not 'mainstream!'
Well, I don't know what they intend to do for power there in Kansas--fermentation of corn crops to make alcohol is not viable--even if you burn the dried stalks, cobs, and leaves...
I don't suppose they are going to build a nuclear plant?
Well, maybe someone will make a 'Tornado Turbine' that taps the energy from tornadoes--I understand Kansas gets a fair number of those each year!
I think what's going on a political level is that pressure is being applied to governments to beginning to 'turn the corner' and change the mechanisams in which we generate power. Big money and power brokers are at play how it 'shakes out' is anybodies guess-it will be interesting to watch what gets used. Kansas state only has one PWR reactor so maybe they might opt for another nuke power plant and make it multi use type electrical, biofuel, etc. generation and processing or pay for power from other states.
