Just a quickie


can any body give a quick and dirty awnser to the question How much energy is released by;


1) the complete fissioning of 1Kg of Pu


2) The complete fusing of 1 kilo of D-T mix (or LiD)

quick answer (per Glasstone & Dolan) :


The complete fissioning of 1Kg of Pu (or U235) releases 20.35 GWh or 73.33 TJ of energy.


Weight for weight, fusion releases about three times as much (this varies slightly with fuel type - D-T or LiD - and process conditions, because different branches of the various fusion reactions become more or less important....)
